Will Playing in Division 2 Harm Jamilu Collins' Super Eagles Chances?

Jamilu Collins’ Paderborn were relegated this week following a 1-0 defeat against Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.

This means that the Super Eagles left back will play division 2 football next season in Germany if he doesn't change clubs to another Premier League side.

I had been praying for Paderborn to avoid the drop but now that the much dreaded is confirmed, there is nothing to gain in crying over spilt milk.

Jamilu Collins has potentials no doubt. Playing in the Bundesliga this season at the highest level not only improved aspects of his game but also enhanced his profile.

Going down a division is not what he needs now particularly as he can gain from the continuous improvements that playing top level football brings which in turn will help stave off intense competition for his place in the national team.

Ola Aina has done well in that position whilst Brian Idowu is still a willing Super Eagles International. Both play Premier League football.

What Next?

Hopefully, a meaningful offer should come his way from a glamorous Premier League side in Europe. If not, he and his colleagues should reflect on the season they had and plot their way to a speedy return back to the Bundesliga.

Playing in the German division 2 should not necessarily harm his Super Eagles chances so long as he plays (very) well when called upon.
