Super Flamingoes: After Dominating West Africa, Can Nigeria U17 Ladies Conquer World Cup Opponents?

Nigeria’s Flamingos are WAFU B U17 champions after winning all five matches, ending their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Togo.

They now turn their attention to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco!

There is indeed a stench of feel-good-factor permeating and polluting this Flamingoes team with the scents of excitement, fascination and indeed awe!

To navigate a whole Wafu Zone B tournament summa-cum-laude and unscathed is simply jaw dropping.

Not meaning to be arrogant but West Africa houses some of the best talents in underage women's football. So, kudos to Busari's Babes.

I didn't follow the tournament religiously other than monitoring outcomes and watching highlights afterwards. And several individual talents par excellence (like Adegbuyi and Harmony) have been mentioned by many an observer.

However the strength of this team doesn't seem to lie in individual talents but as a collective - the whole, as they say, is greater, far greater, than the sum of the individual parts.

You don't overcome Ghana and Ivory Coast by sheer individual brilliance, nah! These worthy adversaries are downed by collective effort - I don't need to have watched the matches to have worked the maths!

4:2 win against Ghana, 2:0 victory against Burkina Faso, 2:0 win against Ivory Coast all reveal the well oiled, well drilled, well tinkered machine that this Flamingoes outfit are.

After dominating the subcontinent October, what is left now is for this team to dominate the world in November at the World Cup.

Or, am I asking for too much? Am I dreaming of cows in the sky? Am I counting chickens from ostrich eggs? Or, put simply, am I simply deluded?

Me thinks not!
