Why Peseiro Should Try 4-1-4-1 Formation

I am yet to identify Peseiro’s second choice starting formation. You in-game you see the the morphing into a 4-2-1-3 formation with Iheanacho/Chukwueze drifting into attacking midfield, pushing Ndidi and Iwobi slightly back.

But to start, the Portuguese Gaffer has been obstinate in going for 4-4-2. His kindred spirit Eguavoen would always revert to a 4-1-4-1 when the chips were down.

To be honest, this 4-1-4-1 allowed the Super Eagles to more express themselves than 4-4-2. For one, it has that holding defensive midfielder who works assiduously to protect the back 4 and also launch ballistic long ball to instigate attacks. It adds a lot of bodies in midfield when one of the wingers drift in to support the two attacking midfielders and one of the attacking midfielders can drift into support striker territory.

The main centre forward can hold up play, bring others in and peel off defends in perilous territory.

In this type of formation, my starting 11 will be:

GK: Adeleye

FBs: Osayi Samuel, Onyemaechi

CBs: Ajayi, Bassey

DM: NdidiAMs: Iwobi, Aribo

WFs: Simon, Dele Bashiru

CF: Boniface
