The Super Eagles are expected to go far the in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The Sports Minister and a section of the fans have implored the team to bring home the trophy.
To do that, we have to navigate what will be a tedious knockout round as it is a runaway conclusion that the Super Eagles will qualify from their group.
We are placed in Group D with Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau.
I think the winner of Group D meets any 3rd place participant from Groups BEF.
– In this a scenario, if we top our group, I predict we are likely to meet any of the potential 3rd place team: Zimbabwe (B), Sierra Leone (E) or Gambia (F) in the second round.
The second placed team in Group D is scheduled to meet the winner of Group E.
– I expect either Algeria or Ivory Coast to win group E in which case we meet any of them in the second round.
In the unlikely event of coming third in Group D, we will meet either the winner or Group A or winner of Group B.
– In this improbable scenario, I suspect we may face Cameroon or Senegal in the second round.
Note, all these permutations are merely speculative.
