WC Final: Will it Be Chidi Harmony's Resurgence? Will It Be Chidi Harmony's Night to Remember?

Since predictably losing her starting 11 slot after just 2 matches in this tournament, after the back opposition nets mocked her zero outputs in front of goal, the yet-to-be fulfilled, enigmatic goal-shy yet supremely talented Centre Forward Chidi Harmony has described reaching the final of the World Cup as a dream come true.

"Reaching the final is a very big thing, it’s a great thing and it’s something that we have dreamed of." Said the supremely talented star who is yet to find her feet, her feet that are yet to fabricate goals.

I had had high hopes for Harmony going into this tournament but it hasn't really happened for her and I don't know why.

Afforded a starting slot against Poland and Puerto Rico, she fired blanks. In the 2 matches that followed those, her replacement, Umejiaku, wasted no time to stab home against North Korea and Mexico, effectively consigning Harmony to the bench afterwards.

Harmony, having effectively been knocked into the cocked hat of the bench, would make further appearances, not an as impact sub though, but as a bit-part-player, clocking only six minutes in 4 matches: no greater indication of her reduced status need be sought.

In those 4 games, Nigeria nuked North Korea, mangled Mexico, vaporised Venezuela and bulldozed Brazil with other Flamingo strikers stealing the headline.

Will the final belong to Chidi Harmony?

In truth it belongs to the entire team. But whether Chidi will have the chance to shine is another matter.

Coach Busari appears to have installed Umejiaku as his preferred smooth operating assassin and so far, she has hit the bulls eye with ruthless efficiency and merciless proficiency, sometimes with sharpness of a cutlass, other times with the brutality of a hammer, all times never less than effective.

It will be bonkers to replace Umejiaku as the arrow head of this team. However should Chidi have the chance, I want to believe she will give it her all.

Otherwise, as a team, it will be a tournament for her to remember, however individually, it's turning out to be a tournament for her to forget.

Good luck to Chidi. We love her immensely and we have no doubt her immense star will glitter for years to come!
