Valentine Ozornwafor: eyeing Spanish La Liga and Super Eagles spot

Nigeria Under-23 International Valentine Ozornwafor featured for his club Almeria this week in their 1:0 semi-final first leg promotion play-off away loss to Girona as he also has one eye on a place in the heart of Super Eagles defence.

"I am sure that one day I will play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, and it is not going to be far from now," Ozornwafor was quoted by Brila.net recently.

Had his team won their first leg promotion play-off, his time for the Super Eagles would indeed not be far because it would be difficult to overlook a young defender in the books of a Spanish La Liga side (if they make it to the play-off final and gain promotion to La Liga with the services of Ozornwafor retained).

But they now have it all to do in the second leg semi final scheduled for August 15.

In truth, Ozornwafor's inclusion in Almeria's starting 11 for this play-off encounter was something of a surprise to Super Eagles fans having last played for the club on January 19 thereby missing a whole 19 games prior.

In fact, his future with South Eastern Coastal Spanish side remains a matter of much speculation as it was rumoured at some point that it was all but concluded that the club management has seen enough to conclude that they will not extend his stay but send him back to his parent club Galastasaray (hence why he has missed many matches).

But surprisingly, he was included yesterday and the 21 year old posted a decent performance (even though the pre-assist and eventual through-ball that led to Girona's goals all happened around him).

Still, he was rated a modest 6.7/10 for the encounter having made 4 clearances, 3 tackles and 4 successful ground duels for the 60 minutes to which he graced the pitch.

"All I do now is work hard to making sure my dream of playing for the Super Eagles comes to pass,” Ozornwafor projected.

Indeed, if he continues to work hard and build on his modest promotion play-off performance, with good fortune his dreams can become a reality.

But for his club dreams of playing in La Liga to come pass, they need to overcome the 1 goal deficit in the second leg of the semi-final play-off billed of August 15.

Ozornwafor will hope to feature again.
