Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was fantastic this weekend as his heroics helped secure Telkom Knockout Quarter-Finals spot for Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa.
Kermit Erasmus gave Cape Town City the lead in the 34th minute after a period of sustained pressure. Akpeyi kept Kaizer Chiefs in the game with three fine saves in the second half.
Samir Nurkovic then scored late on to take the game into extra time.
It went to penalties with Kaizer Chiefs winning 4:2. Akpeyi saved a penalty.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper has been in fantastic form after the Africa Cup of Nations with sterling performances that recently won him a 'man of the match' award.
Still, many Super Eagles fans don't want him to man the post for the national team.
Although he had a decent tournament in Egypt, many fans still unfairly blame Akpeyi for not preventing Mahrez from scoring from the freekick that condemned Nigeria to a third place playoff match.
Now that Uzoho is out injured, it remains to be seen whether Gernot Rohr - who overlooked Akpeyi for recent friendlies - will recall the 33 year old for Afcon qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho in November.
If not, young German-Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye will have to be thrown in deep end as Ezenwa is unlikely to be match fit for the encounters.
