Nigeria 4:0 Benin - Retrospective Reflection

I cannot really say with any sort of certainty how the World Cup qualification playoffs will play out for the Super Eagles. What is sure is this, if they play with the same level of concentration, professionalism, and attention-to-detail like we saw against Benin, they will be a thorn in the flesh of playoff opponents .
The Super Eagles had a game plan against Benin and they stuck to it like glue.
Coach Gernot Rohr, previously coach of Nigeria who now dines with the opposition, was well aware of the weaknesses of the Super Eagles. That script would be flipped, that knowledge was used to roast him in the flames of humiliation.

Chukwueze likes to dribble way too much, he often holds on to the ball far too long like a lover, Rohr knew that. However, Chukwueze treated the ball like a jilted lover last night, dropping it quickly, like a sack of hot potatoes, for two quick assists to Osihmen's well taken goals, subverting expectations, putting dagger in the heart of his former national team coach.
The Super Eagles are vulnerable in set pieces, Rohr told his boys, yet Stanley Nwabali stood up to be counted in each corner kick, dumbfounding Rohr.
The Super Eagles lose concentration easily, after all, this was the same team that, under the same Rohr, blew away a 4 goals lead against Sierra Leone. Chukwueze, Iwobi and Osihmen, all scorers of those 4 goals against Sierra Leone, yesterday showed Rohr that they were different beasts on this night. Sierra Leone equalised, Benin capitulated.

Moses Simon is spent, Rohr must have told his boys. Can anything good still come out of Moses Simon's Nazareth, Rohr must have asked, disparagingly. Simon answered emphatically, gouging out the eyes of Rohr's expectations with 2 peerless assists.
Rohr came to steal the show, but the Super Eagles crashed the party, putting 4 unrequited goals past their once reverred gaffer, powering their way to the World Cup qualification play-offs and proving that, when push comes to shove, that Nigeria Spirit, dormant throughout this campaign, will resurrect, dominate and prevail against all odds!
Well done Super Eagles.
Congratulations everyone .
We didn't qualify for the World Cup, not yet, but half bread is better than none; this is one loaf that will at least sustain me until November's qualification play-offs!
