Is Peseiro Being Realistic with His Ambitions of Winning The Afcon Tournament for Nigeria?

Super Eagles unpopular coach Jose Peseiro has expects a tough and highly competitive 2023 Cup of Nations because all 24 finalists are determined to leave their mark.

The 63-year-old Portuguese coach will be making his Afcon debut and has promised the country a fourth Gold.

“I expect a strong and difficult competition in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and the teams are all distinguished and want to win the competition,” he told Koraplus.

Despite this admission, his resolve to lift the trophy for Nigeria remains untouched.

“I told everyone that I wanted to win the Africa Cup of Nations from the first moment I signed the contract with the Nigerian national team, and we study our opponents well in order to win, and this is what we seek to achieve."

Nigeria will open training camp in Dubai tomorrow.

They begin their AFCON campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan.

It has to be said that a large section of Nigeria fans have no faith in Peseiro’s abilities. Results of Super Eagles' matches under him have been underwhelming. His formation and tactical approach remains unpopular with the Fanbase.

Nonetheless, the NFF are will to give him a chance to prove doubters wrong, so am I.
