Electing to ditch the English Premier League for greener playing time pastures in Germany is proving to be a stroke of genius for marauding midfielder Frank Onyeka.
He was beginning to struggle for game time in Brentford, a situation that would have depleted his confidence and harmed his Super Eagles status had it continued.
Now, with 11 games out of 12 in the German Bundasliga in his basket of appearances, Onyeka is at his bruising best. This augurs well for the Super Eagles in coming assignments should the cold hands of injury not strike.
Onyeka isn't exactly catnip for many Super Eagles fans who bemoan his lack of goal threat and limited dynamism in midfield.
However those attributes are not Onyeka's unique selling points.

He has a powerful engine that is robust and rigorous in how he covers grounds, wins possession and keeps the midfield ticking.
He always delivers a scatter gun midfield output that scarcely sparks all the performance targets in its sight. But it often takes down enough, some with the sharpness of a scalpel blade and some with the roughness of a sledgehammer to be deemed highly acceptable.
And it is that combination refinement and rawness that makes his overall midfield presence unique. Coupled with that his never-say-die attitude.
All eyes will be on a highbrow player like Onyeka to make next year a memorable one for the Super Eagles.
