Does Late Call-up Jennifer Echegini Bring Any Quality To The Super Falcons?

Jennifer Onyi Echegini, who provided a sumptuous assist in Nigeria's last game against Costa Rica, has been given a late call-up to the senior women’s national team ahead of next month’s international friendlies in Turkey.

The Super Falcons will face Haiti at the Emir Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey on Friday, 7th April, before taking on World Cup co-hosts New Zealand at the Mardan Sports Complex also in Antalya on Tuesday, 11th April.

The Super Falcons are using the matches to fine-tune their strategy ahead of the World Cup in the summer.

Echegini was not in the original list released for this Turkey tourney but, upon reflection and perhaps based on her impressive displays in the Mexico Invitational tournament in February, the 22 year old midfielder was handed a late call-up.

Echegini played five of Nigeria’s last seven games since featuring for the West African giants during a 2-0 loss to Canada on April 4, 2022.

The young midfielder has a keen eye for killer passes with nimble footwork and menacing movements to boot which, combined, allow her to glide through midfield into enemy territory with deadly intent and a killer's instincts . This makes her a valuable asset in the heart of the midfield for the Super Falcons.
