Cyriel Dessers to Replace Ighalo?

Unconfirmed reports reaching Afro footy indicate that Belgium born brutal center forward Cyriel Dessers is being lined up for a glamorous return to the Super Eagles to replace returnee Odion Ighalo whose club is attempting to stop him honouring his invitation.

Ighalo returned to the Super Eagles last month following his return from retirement and was handed an invitation to participate in the tournament. However his Middle Eastern club are not playing ball with their reluctance to release him for national duty citing late notification.

Nigeria has already lost Emmanuel Dennis to Watford in England on near-similar circumstances.

Ighalo has been on fire in Saudi scoring no less than 10 goals in 14 games to power his team to second in the league table - they are hell bent on winning the title with Ighalo's goals key to that objective.

As they flex their muscles, feelers from the glass house have it that Holland based Cyriel Dessers is penciled down to be called upon if they loose the fight to secure Ighalo's release.

Dessers, a huge fan favourite, is having a blast of a season for Feyenord having scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists across 27 games in all competitions.

As most of his goals came with (late) substitute appearances, Super Eagles fans will be hoping for such impacts off the bench if he does eventually end up going to Cameroon (as he is not expected to be a starter).

Very few fans would mourn Ighalo's absence as they would much prefer for him to stay retired so younger vibrant strikers can offer a fresher interpretation of the centre forward role to the audience.

Nigeria locks horn with Egypt next Tuesday in what promises to be an epic showdown.
