The hopes of playing in the group stages of this year’s Uefa Champions League is very much alive for Christie Ucheibe as her Benfica edged Rangers in a narrow 2:1 first leg victory this week.
Playing away from home, Benfica went down to an early goal from McCoy in just 25 minutes. Not to be undone, Victoria drew the game level in 38 minutes meaning the first half ended 1 :1.
Vitoria would weave her magic again to power Benfica into the lead with a sterling strike in 57 minutes. Parity would be however restored almost instantly in 58 minutes when McCoy showed she had more tricks up her own sleeves with an emphatic effort for the scoreline to read now 2:2.
However, Encinas delivered the blow that broke Rangers' Camel's back with a sublime finish 78 minutes. Rangers ladies huffed and puffed but could not bring the house down, 3:2 it ended in favour of Benfica.
Nigeria's Christie Ucheibe was unavailable for this encounter but she would have been pleased for the performance of her colleagues.
The second leg holds week when Ucheibe will hopefully play a part.
