Can Taiwo Awoniyi rediscover the blistering form he showed in Belgium?

Super Eagles hopeful Taiwo Awoniyi has recalled his time in Belgium so fondly in a recent interview.

Currently on loan in Mainz in the German Bundesliga, Awoniyi has only managed to score 1 goal in 12 outings having struggled badly for game-time earlier in the season.

However, his time for Royal Excel Mouscron in the Belgian last season and the one before was very productive. Having scored 10 goals in 29 outings for Mouscron in the 2017/18 season, he would go on to record 11 goals in 16 outings for them last term. Sandwiched between that was his unproductive strint at Genk earlier last season when he only managed 3 goals in 21 games.

“I had two years in Belgium which were great seasons for me and there are lots of reasons why I chose to leave," Said Awoniyi.

"But Mouscron will always be a club that I respect a lot.”

The 21 year old centre forward is currently recuperating from a concussion he suffered due to a clash of heads in a recent league match.
