Five goals heroine Opeyemi Ajakaye is being looked upon to produce another set of five star performances across two legs when the Flamingos cross swords against an unpredictable Ethiopia in the final round of U-17 women’s world cup qualifiers.
Not to be undone, the likes of Omowunmi Bello with three goals in the kitty and Tumininu Adeshina with two goals in the bag will also want to join in the jamboree.
But the Ethiopians are not one to just roll over and die. No, they will put up a spirited effort after all, they didn’t reach this stage by just twiddling their toes – they earned the rights to be here, thus Bankole’s babes will have to earn their place in the world cup the hard and tricky way.
After knowing his team would face Ethiopia in the final round of qualifiers, coach Bankole said: "we will sit down and get needed information about Ethiopia, study this information and then map out the right strategies for the matches.”
Hopefully he has taken the right notes and have mapped the right strategies. Any slip of focus will be exploited mercilessly by these unforgiving Ethiopians.
Odds-on favourites South Africa found out the hard way in penultimate round.
The first leg is set for Friday 18 May in Addis Ababa with the second leg billed for 4 June in Abuja.
