Unsettled former FIFA U17 Golden Glove winner, Dele Alampasu, who sealed his move to Pieta Hotspur FC in Malta this week, will be eyeing an ambitious return to the Super Eagles.
The Maltese first division club announced the signing of the 25-year-old Nigerian on their official Instagram page on Tuesday. He played in Latvia before this move where his performances were hit and miss.
He last earned an invitation to the Super Eagles in 2020 for friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia where he was rooted to the bench for both encounters. He took to the pitch for Nigeria in 2017 in a friendly match against Togo.
Does he now have a chance for future national team call up?
His chances are wafer thin. The Maltese league is not as competitive as the English Championship, Cypriot league or the Isreal Premier league where the current crop of Super Eagles goalkeepers get their gloves dirty.
It is even probable that Nigeria Professional Football League goalkeepers might even be considered ahead of Alampasu.
But, if he pull up trees with breath-taking saves and all round attention grabbing performances in Malta, then the pendulum of national team invitations might miraculously swing his way.
