The world and his wife will not be delighted to see a return of Coach Austin Eguavoen back in the dugout for the Super Eagles but that situation now seems an inevitability.
Anyway, based on how advanced talks are going with potential expatriate candidates, Eguavoen’s tenure seems definitely destined to be ephemeral.
I only pray he will be able to mastermind positive outcomes in those matches.
Missing next year’s Afcon is definitely a possibility. Benin and Rwanda should not be tackled with kids gloves otherwise they will snatch the Afcon tickets right under Nigeria’s nostrils.
Worryingly, the two matches Eguavoen will preside over will be against these menacing opponents. Both countries managed to milk out a 1:1 draw each against heavyweights Senegal in qualifiers for the last Afcon and both currently sit above Nigeria comfortably in World Cup qualifiers.
With these in mind, it passes belief that the NFF and Sports Ministry didn’t move quicker to put in place a permanent credible Super Eagles Head Coach.
This late in the day, Super Eagles fans can just sit back and hope for the best.
