Balogun rated highly again

Wigan Athletic took a giant leap towards safety in the English Championship yesterday with a shocking 3:0 away victory at Reading with our own Balogun playing his part from the heart of their defence. Rating Balogun for their penultimate game, wigantoday.net wrote:”Leon Balogun: 8 – Could turn out to be the signing of the season; incredible to think he hadn’t played in the league for over a year before last week.” Balogun then followed this up with another sturdy performance yesterday that attracted top ratings from the same media out, as they wrote : "Leon Balogun: 8 - Has slotted into the side seamlessly and now impossible to imagine the backline without him".

The Super Eagles international, who played 90 minutes, made 7 key clearances and 3 incisive interceptions to help his team keep a clean sheet. He won 3 ground and 7 aerial duels and was himself fouled later on to post a performance that the club fans would be proud of. The nature of the bitter, brutal battle to attempt to avoid relegation should help sharpen Balogun’s competitive edge ahead of key matches for the Super Eagles. It has been reported that the 31 year old centre defender remains integral to the plans of the coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr.
