The most fantastic quote this week came from Super Eagles speedster Ahmed Musa whose loan move to CSKA Moscow FC from ‘one hit wonder ‘Leicester City FC of England delighted many Super Eagles fans at home and abroad.
Many had questioned the wisdom of moving from a perennial premier league (of Russia) champions to a seasoned second division champions who serendipitously won the English premier league in 2015-16.
In fact, the last time Leicester City were premier (first division back then) league champions prior to 2015 was in 1929. Contrast that with CSKA Moscow who have been champions of Russia 13 times in 1946, 1947, 1948, 1950, 1951, 1970, 1991, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2012–13, 2013–14, and 2015–16.
Domestically, the Russian giants won the Russian Cup in 1945, 1948, 1951, 1955, 1991, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013 – a total of 12 times. Contrast that with Leicester who have never won the English FA cup.
What Leicester City achieved in 2016 was truly remarkable and that cannot be taken away from them. The English premier league is also perhaps the most followed globally.
Confirming his loan switch, Mighty Musa was quoted as saying: “I have passed the medical successfully and now I am a PFC CSKA player.
I am very happy and proud to be back. This is truly my home, champion team that fights for the top awards and occupies highest places.
I am back to red-blue family! I promise that I will give everything for this club in order to make PFC CSKA champion again. I will work very hard.”
Musa status has instantly changed as he has been reportedly registered into CSKA’s Europa League squad – a tournament the Russian giants won in 2005.
Returning to a team that wins at home and participates abroad regularly, Ahmed Musa is truly back home among champions.
