Is Ifeoma Onumonu Back To Being A Super Falcons Fan Favourite?

One thing I seem to like about Coach Justine Madugu is that he tends to plug players in their optimal position.

Though I am never a fan of Onumonu, that has never made me deny her immense energy and engine as a centre forward.

As fabulous as Coach Randy Waldrum was, he penchant for playing Onumonu on the flanks proved unfruitful.

So, playing Onumonu slapbang in the middle, where she is at her most ruthless, bore delicious fruits against France where she flourished.

Onumonu, who has been scoring goals for fun since moving to France, now believes the Super Falcons can only fly higher from here. "With more time to prepare (for next year's Wafcon), we’ll be a better team.” She said.

I am so happy for Onumonu but I wonder what will happen when other centre forwards become available.

Esther Okoronkwo, Asisat Oshoala, Uchenna Kanu, Chiwendu Iheuzo and C. Macleans are exciting options vying for that coveted number 9 slot. You then have rookies like Ijamilusi and Ajakaiye knocking hard at the door of opportunity.

So, with the plethora of options available to the Super Falcons, not only in attack, but across the pitch, Onumonu is right to say up is the only way from here.
