News reaching Afrofooty indicate that Nigeria’s leading sports marketing Company, Integral Sponsorship and Experiential Marketing Limited has secured the media rights to broadcast a Live English Premier League match per week on Free-To-Air television over the course of the 2019/2022 rights cycle.
This is fantastic development for many Nigerians who support the English Premer League. It is a huge brand in Nigeria with significant following. So, to offer matches free-to-air will make this accessible to many who can’t afford the luxury of cable or satellite television.
The NTA (Nigeria Television Authority) will be airing the matches. Only one live match per match-week will be shown. The Director General of the NTA, Alhaji Yakubu Ibn Mohammed stated that, “In terms of excitement, the Premier League is at a pedestal higher than that offered by any other league in the world.
NTA is proud to partner with Integral to bring the excitement to the living rooms and viewing centres of Nigerians”
The organisers should make this initiative more worthwhile by airing matches involving the bigwigs : Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Organisers of the Nigeria Professional League should learn one or two things from the way the English Premer League has become a global brand.
With the right infrastructures and proper management, their is no reason why the NPFL cannot get to a stage where it can be marketed beyond the shores of Nigeria.
For now, they are clearly not there yet.
