Can birthday boy Iwobi be an iconic nos 10 for Super Eagles?

What is there not to like about Alex Iwobi in Nigeria colours?

The affable young man always wears his badge on his sleeves with performances never short of passion, patriotism and positivity.

He is slowly but surely becoming a senior member of the national team even at the age of 24. And, what other type of player would you like to be a senior member other than the level headed Iwobi.

I remember Iwobi scoring against England with a smashing volley in 2018 and then rousing the Super Eagles fans with his raising arm gestures saying “come on, we are still in this match!” My head swelled at the goal and his rallying cry.

Coming on to score against Zambia in the World Cup qualifier in Uyo and then looking like, 'did you ever doubt me!’ Truly, Iwobi’s actions always speak louder than words.

He rarely disappoints in Super Eagles colours: if he is not scoring, he is assisting and when not doing either, he is full of running.

That sort of passion was missing in the Super Eagles at a point however Iwobi has now come to embody everything that hard work, dedication and application stand for in the national team.

Only time will tell when Iwobi will be an iconic number 10 for the Super Eagles. However, with his goals and assists for Nigeria, the signs are good.

Forever the consummate professional, happy birthday and many happy returns to Alex ‘the great’ Iwobi.
