Are The Super Falcons Overconfident Ahead of the Wafcon?

I spent part of my weekend, as if anyone cares to know, watching several Non-Nigeria YouTubers on their channels rave and regale about the Super Falcons, our Super Falcons, being the undisputed, unassailable ,

unstoppable favourites to once again rule the roost in this year’s Wafcon.

And, this confidence from neutral observers appears to be reflected in how the Super Falcons are projecting themselves all over social media with an air of excitement, enjoyment, elation.

Is anyone here on Tiktok, Instagram and X? If so, you won’t have escaped the clip of Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie doing her impression of Ovularia, the wife of Chief Zebrudaya Okorigwe Nwogbo alias Four Thirty, the next door neighbour of Chief Jegede Shokanya, from the 1980s sitcom “The New Masquerade”. Trust me, you will laugh your nose off and probably wind up in hospital with suspected fractured ribs induced by mad laughter – men, it was as funny as hell!

Then you have multiple clips of the other players performing well choreographed dance sequences that would make Michael Jackson smile in his grave, wishing he had included these moves in his award-winning Thriller video.

Oh yes! the Super Falcons are Bad, the Super Falcons are Smooth Criminals, the Super Falcons are Dangerous!

It’s all smiles and jollification when you see them in their traditional green African regalia, emitting this air of cool detached confidence with no care in the world, like players coming home from Wafcon victory rather than those going to face formidable foes in a formidable tournament.

Even the selfie from their team bus that graced the banner of recent online newspaper article is a thing of photographic artistry and visual perfection. It would have taken a professional photographer 10 months to get them to pose to peerless perfection like they did in that selfie. Yet, the outcome feels like a postcard picture that would easily fetch 10,000 Naira per post card.

We the fans are watching, their opponents are watching, neutral observers are watching.

The feel good factor pervading the camp is infectious, irresistible, inspiring.

Perhaps, looking more professional and business-like in a happy manner might sit better, who knows? Who am I to judge?

One can only hope that this overtly confidence demeanor inspires them to victory in the tournament because the tournament is no laughing matter!
